A companion volume to Broken Windows, Burning New York showcases the best large-scale graffiti pieces documented over a five year period from 2001 – 2006. Picking up where Broken Windows leaves off, Burning New York tells the story of graffiti in the new millennium through the lens of photographers James and Karla Murray.

As expected, the Murrays' inscrutable landscape format photographs feature proudly, and their work in the street collecting interviews and intimate portraits of the graffiti writers in action brings the scene to life.

Central to the story are the New York City natives, both those climbing the ranks, as well as the old-school writers, who have been honing their skills for decades. In addition to the hometown talent, genre defying graffiti writers from around the world make the pilgrimage to study old school forms, and to make their own individual contribution to the evolution of the craft. All leave their mark.
